Sport plays an important role in rural and marginalized communities. It can bring communities together; contributes  positively to community identity and sense of place; promote social  interaction and inclusion; and, plays an important role in providing opportunities for physical activity and improved health outcomes for the under-served children.

Our sports program was founded on the principles that all children regardless of where they come from should have access to high quality sports experiences.

Girls enjoying Netball at Empathy Children Initiative Uganda is a primary driver of the sport for development agenda, with a focus on sporting children and young people from our vulnerable and marginalised communities, with programs addressing inactivity & physical literacy, girls’ engagement and mental health.

We recognise the value sport can bring to supporting such vulnerable groups, a sense of belonging, a positive outlet, support, mentoring, guidance and positive role models. We take a holistic approach to developing young people and their skills in bringing about positive change through our sports and multi sports programs.

Sport activities in conjunction with our education programs can enhance enrolment in formal education systems, school attendance and academic performance among school-aged children. Our sport based programs can also offer a platform for learning opportunities beyond primary and secondary schooling, and for the acquisition of skills transferable to the workplace and to social life.
